I won’t be posting for a bit as I’m out teaching field school (and to be fair, I haven’t posted in a while anyways). To tide everyone over though, I’m dropping a link to my good friend Yancey Orr’s recent post on the past as farce and the history of things that DON’T happen. It, much like Yancey, is pretty incredible. While many might not agree, what Yancey is intellectually engaging with is what I think archaeologists should have, and have predominantly failed to, examine since the inception of this discipline. Human object interactions occur continuously. There’s no reason for us to arbitrarily limit our scope as researchers (and luckily there are many who are starting to move past this limitation of only studying the distant past).
